ποΈ From Abandoned Rails to Loving Homes: An Update on the Tacoma Train Cars Dogs

We recently received a heartwarming question from Mary, a dedicated dog lover in our community, asking about the fate of the dogs who had been using the historical passenger cars near Tacoma, USA, as their shelter. Mary asked: “What happened to the dogs that were using these passenger cars as a home and shelter. Did they get a new home too?”
The short answer is yes! Every single one of these dogs has found a safe, loving new home.
Ms. Trail, one of the passionate members of our HoundLine RailRoad pack, was quick to share the wonderful news. Thanks to the incredible efforts of local rescuers, all of the dogs who once sought refuge in those decaying, historical train cars have been successfully adopted into great families across the United States, with some even traveling overseas to new homes in Europe.
While this story has a happy ending, it highlights a much larger global issue. Abandoned animals everywhere face harsh conditions while looking for a place to call home. As Ms. Trail noted, street dogs face an uphill battle in many parts of the world, including countries like Thailand. Often, puppies are purchased on a whim at local markets, only to be abandoned when they grow bigger, leading to a visible population of vulnerable, sick, and skinny dogs on the streets.
Fortunately, there are incredible organizations working tirelessly every day to change these outcomes. If you want to make a difference and help more dogs find their happily-ever-after, please consider supporting the vital work of these groups:
- Rescue Paws (Based in Hua Hin) β rescuepawsthailand.org
- The Man That Rescues Dogs / TMTRD (Based in Chonburi Province) β tmtrd.org
- Soi Dog Foundation (Based in Bangkok/Phuket) β soidog.org
Every dog deserves a safe shelter and a family to love them. Please support these organizations if you can and always remember the most important rule of pet ownership: “Don’t shop, but adopt!”
