πŸš“ 🚚 Historic Rescue: HoundLine Railroad Salvages US Rail Cars for Journey to Pranburi

A convoy of trucks transports antique railway carriages on flatbed trailers along a Thai highway, escorted by a police vehicle with a sign that reads "HEAVY WIDE LOAD."

A spectacular sight caught the eyes of drivers on the highway from Bangkok today as a heavily escorted convoy transported a piece of global transit history toward its new home.

Four massive flatbed trucks, clearing the lanes with “HEAVY WIDE LOAD” warnings, are currently en route to Prachuap Khiri Khan. Secured to their beds are four historical rail passenger carsβ€”recently rescued from a train “graveyard” in the United States by the HoundLine Railroad.

Escorted by a fleet of Thai Highway Police to ensure a safe passage along the multi-lane highway, the vintage wooden and metal structures are traveling south. The weathered red paint and classic design of the carriages stand out in sharp contrast against modern traffic, drawing crowds of onlookers at every overpass.

The Journey Home

According to transport coordinators, the convoy is driving in very slow speed of 40 km/h. The historical passenger cars are severely damaged and cannot withstand high travel speeds with severe vibrations. The convoy departed from the port Laem Chabang area in Chonburi earlier on Tuesday after clearing port logistics. The cars are scheduled to arrive Wednesday morning at their final destination in Pranburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, where they will undergo dedicated restoration.

Once settled, these historic relics are expected to serve a major role in local preservation and tourism efforts, giving a second life to transit history that was almost lost to time.

Stay tuned for updates and photos as the HoundLine Railroad unloads these incredible passenger cars on Wednesday!
