🚢 Tense Voyage: Hound Line’s Rescued LG&B Passenger Cars Battle Rough Seas on Route to Thailand

4 vintage red Hound Line railroad passenger cars secured with lifelines and ropes on the deck of a container ship navigating through massive ocean waves during a storm.

The Hound Line railroad is holding its collective breath as a high-stakes maritime rescue mission faces its toughest challenge yet. The containership SS Sea Raider is currently battling fierce weather and massive swells in the open waters of the North Pacific Ocean. On its deck sits a precious cargo: four historic passenger cars formerly owned by the Lake George and Boulder (LG&B) railroad. These rare pieces of rail history were recently rescued by Hound Line from a forgotten, abandoned shunting yard.

A Perilous Journey Across the Pacific

The vessel departed from the Port of Tacoma, USA, on October 5, 2026, embarking on a 22-to-29-day journey bound for Bangkok, Thailand. The ship is currently about one-third of the way through its voyage, navigating westward along commercial shipping lanes south of the Aleutian Islands. It is expected to pass through a major East Asian transshipment hub—such as Busan, Ningbo, or Shanghai—before making its final leg south.

However, the journey has taken a dramatic turn. Recent updates reveal that the ship has run into severe storms. Vital lifelines securing the vintage LG&B railcars have come loose, leaving them vulnerable to the tilting forces of the crashing ocean waves. Everyone back at the railroad is crossing their fingers, hoping the crew can keep the cargo secure despite the treacherous conditions.

What’s Next for the Vintage Fleet?

If the SS Sea Raider successfully weathers the storm, it is scheduled to achieve ETA in Bangkok between October 27 and November 3, 2026.

Upon safe arrival in Thailand, the timeline for the railcars includes:

  • Offloading: The passenger cars will be carefully unloaded at the port.
  • Ground Transit: They will be secured onto heavy-duty flatbed trucks.
  • Final Destination: The fleet will be transported inland to their new home in the Prachuabkirikhan province.

Stay tuned for further updates as we track the SS Sea Raider through the Pacific. We are all wishing the crew and these historic LG&B cars a safe and successful voyage!
